Dreamers - Please Come Out Of The Closet! 09/16/2010
Something struck me recently while working with a client. She had a dream to do something totally in opposition to the industry she is currently working in. She knew exactly what her dream was, but she was still experiencing a lot of resistance to admitting it to herself and me.
What struck me is that we don't have a lot of practice being honest about our dreams. Heck, we don;t have a lot of practice being honest about all the important things, how we feel, what we think, who we are....Past experience has taught us that when we share our dreams we get resistance from our reality, so what do we do? We give up. Well after so much giving up we get to a point where we have a hard time admitting our dreams even to ourselves.
In my own experience, being honest about my dream to help people live their dreams, was like my experience of coming out of the closet. It was completely in opposition to what I had been taught and what was expected of me. I'm sure many of you can relate! The experience is fraught with fear, confusion, in-authenticity, doubt, worry. When you think about your dreams, your REAL dreams not those that conform with your reality, I bet you experience some or all of the states of being mentioned above.
So how do you come out of the closet about your dreams? You've got to be willing to be completely honest with yourself. Once you are, then you can start to share your dreams with folks you know who will be supportive. Now you are moving toward your dreams, not staying stuck behind a closed closet door!
To get you started, share your dreams here. Go ahead and comment below. Write your dreams, your REAL dreams, the more "out there" the better! You've got nothing to fear here, so come on out!
